Why did I Click on the Instagram ad?

Ads are always showing up – interrupting a video, showing up on social media pages. However, even though they’re showing up everywhere, they’re not always getting clicked. The call to action of the ad needs to be strong in order to get the click.

My Experience

At least once a day I see an ad featured on a social media platform. Whether it’s Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, or Twitter, ads will be visible in some sort of form. It was the beginning of summer, a rainy day, and I had just cleaned out clothes out of my closet. More specifically, I got rid of a lot of bathing suits that day and decided I wanted to get more. Because of Covid, I couldn’t go shopping in person for more bathing suits. Later that day I went on to Instagram and sure enough there was an ad for an online bathing suit website that was having a sale being it was the start of summer. The ad just happened to pop up at the right time, possibly being that it was the beginning of the summer and it was a rainy day – which are usually the times when the most online shopping is done. The first thing I noticed about the ad, was that it was an online store I have shopped at previously. There was also the word “sale” in big bold letters, easily could’ve been the biggest piece on the ad. There is a feature on Instagram that allows for more than one picture to be posted in the same post. This ad took advantage of that feature as there were 5 different pictures promoting their bathing suit sale, with different styles of bathing suits at low prices. I clicked on this ad because the timing couldn’t have been more accurate, and there was a sale on bathing suits that were already at low prices. Not to mention, the ad showed more than one style of bathing suit, which probably drew many people in.
